Albums of the Week! Skeletonwitch takes the top spot with what might very well be my favorite album; so good I can never play it just once. Sulphur Aeon was close behind, and I am so pumped for their new album in October. I also dusted off some Cannabis Corpse after accidentally letting them fall out of my rotation and can verify that it doesn’t lose its potency. No black metal this week…I guess I was too happy?
1. Skeletonwitch - Beyond The Permafrost
2. Sulphur Aeon - The Scythe Of Cosmic Chaos
3. Gruesome - Twisted Prayers
4. Blackevil - Forever Baptized In Eternal Fire
5. Cannabis Corpse - From Wisdom to Baked
6. Judas Priest - Reflections - 50 Heavy Metal Years of Music
7. Metallica - And Justice For All
8. Wulfskol - Burn With Us (2023)
9. Bewitcher - Under The Witching Cross

Here’s some Finnish medieval black metal to start the weekend: Raate - Sielu, Linna. Has anyone else here heard of this band? I don’t remember how I discovered them, and I’ve never met anyone else who has even heard of them. If you like that old school black metal that deeply entrances you with repeated melodic riffs and eschews flair or shock value, you can understand the appeal here. Good stuff.
This Gruesome - Twisted Prayers woven patch is huge! The band is blowing these out on their merch site (@darkercorners_studio ) for $12.99. That’s a steal if you know what PTPP charges for these. One of my favorite album covers ever, of course by the legendary Ed Repka.
I’ve owned a lot of records over the years. But the only one I’ve straight up lost and never found again was my copy of Black Sabbath’s Live at Last. It just disappeared from my collection one day. Did you borrow it from me?
.
I finally found a replacement at @soundrevolutionhtx last time I was there. This is a 1981 pressing from Italy. Do I care that the cover is all beat up? Nope. The vinyl is perfect and sounds great.
Necropanther - Betrayal (2023). At long last, I finally have the vinyl edition of Necropanther’s fantastic new album. This is an absolute ripper that will have you grinning from start to finish. If I can’t convince you, take a look at that awesome cover art and tell me your interest isn’t piqued. Come on! This is exactly the type of record you should take a chance on if you saw it at a record store, and you’d spend the rest of your life telling people about how well you scored the day you blindly bought it.
🤘
Buy it. Play it. Love it. #Necropanther
Albums of the Week! This was a light week of music listening for me. Work kicked my butt so hard that I drove home with the stereo off several times. But I did manage to play some good albums just enough to make another weekly list:

3. Malokarpatan - Krupinské Ohne
4. Slayer - Divine Intervention
5. Lamp of Murmuur - Saturnian Bloodstorm (2023)
6. Frozen Soul - Glacial Domination (2023)
7. Haunt - Golden Arm (2023)
8. The Misfits - Static Age
9. Stormkeep - Tales of Othertime
